Poland witnesses sharp rise in anti-Ukrainian content on social media
The study, conducted by the Polish fact-checking organization Demagog Association in collaboration with the Institute for Media Monitoring, indicated a 98% rise compared to the April–July period. The total audience reach also increased by 104%, surpassing 66 million contacts during the August–November timeframe.
The report noted that over 92% of the anti-Ukrainian content appeared on the US social media company X, which also accounted for more than 60% of user interactions with such posts.
While the exact reasons for the recent surge remain unclear, researchers observed that prior spikes in hostile messaging often coincided with Russian disinformation campaigns. The latest increase aligned with several events, including Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of legislation extending social welfare rights to Ukrainians, a mass breach of Polish airspace by Russian drones, and a sabotage attack on Polish railway lines in November.
Poland remains one of the countries hosting the largest number of Ukrainians since the outbreak of the war, with around 965,000 residents, alongside Germany and the Czech Republic.
